All Packed Up!

If you didn't know, Shawn has a great job! He is a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and he loves going to work each day. He is really excited about his new job in Fergus Falls, MN because it is going to involve working with wetlands more than his current job. His job has great benefits and one of those is that they pay for moving if you are a permanent employee. This was wonderful, can you imagine packing up all of your stuff with 4 kids around to help?

Needless to say my kids were beside themselves with excitement when this huge orange semi pulled up in front of our house. The moving company sent 3 men to pack up all of my stuff and I took the kids down to Heather's house to play all day (someone had to do it). I am sure that we didn't have enough stuff to fill the semi all the way up, but I didn't see it when the packers were done. The packers were just glad that we didn't have a basement and we are glad that our next house DOES have one!

Moving Day is Tomorrow!

Moving day is almost here.

We emptied out the fridge today and gave all of our extra food to a friend. Tomorrow we are planning on oatmeal and water, which involves no refrigeration.

I spent all day packing for our temporary quarters. Our van and car are full!! I never said we travelled light. With 3 kids and 1 baby you need lots of equipment. Hopefully we will survive 3 weeks. I am going to take before and after pictures tomorrow and on Wednesday if I am not to busy. The kid and I are spending the day down at my good friend's house so we aren't in the way of the packers. She is even letting us spend the night. We will really miss all of the wonderful friends we have made here in Waupun.

Papa Bo

This is my grandpa and all of his great-grandkids - half of those are mine! We all got together in March when we went to KS to visit our family. Papa Bo always sends out a Christmas card with pictures of the great-grandkids, hopefully this year the grandkids won't add anymore great-grandkids to the group before Christmas.

Just playing around with Adobe Photoshop...this really captures her orneriness!

LEGOS

Every boy needs a big pile of legos. K-man will play with his legos for hours and create all sorts of interesting creations...this week it is semis and buildings. Luckily, the legos are against the wall this time, usually they are in the middle of the floor.

One Stall Garage??

Here are a few pictures of our new (used) furniture for the basement. We got a really good deal and the only place to store it is in our garage until we move. Needless to say we can barely walk through our garage right now with all of the furniture and kids toys. We didn't have ANY furniture for the basement, so I am glad that we were able to find something in our budget. We got a queen sleeper sofa, loveseat, glider rocker, coffee table, 2 side tables, and a tall wall table plus an entertainment center but we sold the entertainment center at our garage sale last week because I thought it was ugly. I will probably get different shades for the lamps- they aren't my favorite, but they work so they will be okay while we do all of our other home improvement and moving projects.

2 days until moving day!

There is only 2 more days until we are leaving our wonderful house. I finally started packing today.

I stuffed as many kids clothes in their suitcases as I could, hopefully I won't have to do laundry too much in the next 3 weeks. There is laundry facilities at the apartments, but I can't imagine toting all of my dirty laundry and 4 kids to a laundry room. I am hoping that we can make it a week before having to do laundry...I know I am being hopeful, but we might make it.

I also started to pack arosol cans, fingernail polish, cleaning supplies and other things that the moving company won't allow on the truck because they are flameable.

I am going to wait until Monday to pack up the kids toys and empty out the fridge...time if flying.

Countdown to moving day - 3 days left

The packers are going to be here Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m., so I have to have all of our temporary quarters stuff ready and packed by then. They come to box all of our stuff up on Tuesday and then on Wednesday they will load it all in a semi and take it to temporary storage in Fergus Falls. Then in 3 weeks they load it back up and bring it to our new house.

I have 3 days to get everything we will need to survive 3 weeks in Madison to fit into our van and car. We don't usually travel lightly with all of the baby gear that we need; stroller, exersaucer, bouncy seat, car seat, pack-n-play, booster, play mat...plus suitcases with clothes, shoes and toys for 4 kids and 2 adults. Will it all fit? I will try to remember to take a picture of the vehicles after I get them packed.

I just got all of the girls clothes switched over today, which involved taking out most of the winter clothes, switching out all of last years summer clothes and packing all of the old sizes into totes.

We also had our first day of weather warm enough to wear shorts. Yeah, spring for a day! To bad it is supposed to rain for the next 4 days. I am okay with rain as long as it doesn't rain on Wednesday when the packers come to load all of our stuff up.

Doing Special Things

When you are the mother of four children most of the activities you do are as a family. I love seeing my kids play together but, Shawn and I try to make time to do special things with the kids one on one. It is amazing how much fun they have when they get to do something alone with mommy or daddy. These special times don't involve extra money most of the time, they are just normal everyday activities. The kids love to go to the grocery store, gas station, post office, bank, ride bikes while we run, or help with a special chore. It is fun to interact with each child and see their unique personality shine through.

Right before baby K #4 arrived, I took K-girl to get her first official salon cut with me. We each had about 6 inches cut which was definitely the most I have ever had cut at one time.

Growing Girl

Kassidy went in for her 4 month well baby visit today and the best part was, I didn't have to take her! Shawn stayed home to help out with all of our last minute moving projects that had to be done and he took Kassidy in for her appointment. I hate well baby visits, especially when they are giving shots! Usually I go and take all four of my kids and Callie, so I have 5 kids in a small doctor's room for an eternity. My kids love to watch everything the doctor is doing so they are standing on the chair, ALL trying to see what is happening. Then the doctor gives the shot and they are all crying or standing with their ears covered. Fun, fun, fun.

Kassidy checked out fine and has grown a lot! She is in the 95% for height and weight. She is already 25 1/2 inches tall and weights 16 pounds...good thing I bought those size 3 diapers today at Walmart. It only took me 4 kids to stop worrying so much about them getting enough food. I look back on their baby pictures and they were all really chubby, so at least with Kassidy I am not so worried if she doesn't eat really well each meal.

We Were BOXED!

We finally got boxed!! Sonlight boxes that is. I ordered our homeschool curriculum for next year a couple of week ago.

The LONG saga of waiting for our boxes...

I had the boxes sent to Shawn's work, just incase something was back ordered. Well, Sonlight shipped our boxes a couple of days after we ordered, which was really fast. Of course Fed-ex tried to deliver it on Saturday to Shawn's office - no one there because they don't usually work weekends. (Shawn was actually working on Saturday, but he was burning a prairie so he wasn't at the office.) Then he worked late on Monday waiting for the box to arrive but it didn't come. Then finally the package was delivered on Tuesday, but not until after he left for home so we had to wait until Wednesday for him to bring our boxes. It was a long wait, when we thought we were going to get the box on Saturday.

The kids were so excited. When Shawn started walking towards the house with our Sonlight box the kids were yelling and jumping up and down because they had waited so long for their boxes. We had to wait for daddy to take a shower (he smelled like smoke from burning all day) then the kids attacked the boxes and we had to take out all of the books to look at them. I thought there were going to be tears when I told them we couldn't start school until after we moved to MN and got our new classroom set up. My kids love school, but who wouldn't with such a great teacher. :)

Bye Callie

I almost feel like I am losing a child today. I have been babysitting a little girl named Callie for a year and a half. She is 2 1/2 years old and in the middle of my two girls. Today was the last day that I was watching her. What a sad day, my kids loved Callie and viewed her as another sibbling. They didn't understand why she had to go home to her house on the weekends and now we are moving and won't see her again. I was so lucky, getting to earn a little bit of money by watching a wonderful child and staying at home with my munchkins.

Sending cards to Kansas

I actually found a few minutes to stamp the last couple of days after the kids went to bed. The last time I stamped was when I was in March during our trip to Kansas to visit family. I stamped with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

My stamping table is down at Heather's for the garage sale so I had to haul all of my stamping stuff down to the kitchen table. Oh well, it is all worth it right? I created two sets of cards from ideas I got from splitcoaststampers.com for my sister-in-law. I did all of the stamping, assembled one of each card and I am sending the rest to my sister-in-law for her to assemble. She likes to send cards to her patients at the dental office. Here are some pictures of the cards that I made.

Sandbox Mania

I don't know if this counts as a "game" in the traditional sense, but my kids love to make up games and play in the sandbox for hours on end. Every kid ought to have a big sandbox in their backyard. K-man loves to play with all of his construction equipment and all of the girls love to use the kitchenware to cook cakes and anything else they can think of. Luckily the new house also has a sandbox in the backyard.
I am glad that I homeschool on days like this. I love that I can let the kids play outside and then do schoolwork whenever we can fit it in. This IS kindergarten and they should get to play most of the time.

Papon #4 is 4 months old today

When you are with your baby 24/7 it is harder to see the changes. They never seem to grow and they are always your little baby. I can hardly believe that k-baby is already 4 months old. I remember with my first baby, I wanted him to reach each milestone quickly and then we were looking towards the next one. With my last baby...I am holding on to each moment and trying to cherish each and every day. I am trying to remember that they are only babies once! It just amazes me at how quickly they change in so little time.

Dot-a-dot painting

My kids love dot-a-dot painting and so do I. I didn't discover these cool dot painters until my 3rd child. These have to be one of the greatest craft inventions I have ever used with my children. My kids love to paint, but when I have my 6 year old, 4 year old, 2 year old and the little girl I babysit painting at the table while the baby screams in the background - life can be hectic. These paint daubers are great because they are almost mess proof (my kids can make a mess with anything if left unattended for more than a few minutes)! My kids love to make cool pictures and even my 2 year old can do it without creating a huge mess. They are just like bingo markers, the kids can easily twist off (and on) the lids. They go crazy doing all sorts of artistic creations to hang on the walls and send to the Nanas and Papas. They dry fast too! I bought mine at a local toy store Fay's Fun and Learning, but I have seen them on Amazon.com too. This picture was done by K-man.

Sick Days

I was up sick earlier in the week all night, but it was okay because no one else got sick. Well, that ended today, k-man and k-girl both ended up sick last night and this morning. Poor kiddos, nothing is worse that when your kids are sick.

I am glad that we homeschool because we just threw the schedule out the window for the day and took it easy. I didn't have to haul anyone anywhere, we just stayed at home and played, napped and watched some PBS. I enjoyed relaxing on the couch snuggling with them and telling them how much love them. Tomorrow or next week sometime we will get to school. K-man is already on his third phonics book for this year and the second math book so we aren't in a hurry to get a lot of stuff done before summer.

Marble Race

My kids like to play games and this is one of their favorite. The marble race has lots o pieces but they can play for an hour or more building elaborate marble races. K-man is the master builder and the girls like racing the marbles down, which they can do even while he is building which keeps them out of trouble with big brother.

Sonlight homeschool

I am getting excited about the coming school year! I know we haven't even finished this year yet, but with all of our moving plans, most of our school stuff has come to a hault. I have worked hard and put together a used Core K curriculum for Kolsen to use for his 1st grade homeschool. My husband also let me buy the new science curriculum off of the sonlight website, it was fun to actually push the buy button.

I am planning on starting our homeschool year after we get settled in at our new house and get our new classroom set up. We can't wait to get our "box" of curriculum! I had to send it to my husband's work address since we are moving into temporary housing in 2 weeks. I am sure the kids will be so worked up when daddy gets to deliver our box! I even got most of our used curriculum in a Sonlight box too, so I will have to get it out of storage to go over the books I already have.

Frugal Mom

Okay, so I'm not as good at saving money on groceries as my awesome sister-in-law, but I did get my $1.50 out of this outfit. This was one of my favorite outfits I bought from a neighbor's garage sale right after K-girl was born. I liked it so much that since she had it in 3 different colors and I bought all three. Luckily, I had 3 girls to use it on.

Moving Day is coming

New House in Minnesota

Old House in Wisconsin

I feel so weird this time...I am NOT packing up the house and we move in 2 weeks. Why? you might ask, we have a moving company coming to help us move. YEAH! We haven't ever done this before, but I am pretty excited about not having to box anything up (like I would have the time to do that with 4 little helpers). We are moving to Madison, WI for 3 weeks of temporary housing while my husband finishes up his current job, then we are off for Frostbite Falls er, Fergus Falls, MN.

There are a few things we are pretty excited about. First, we are excited that Shawn will only have a 10 minute drive to work each day (currently he drives an hour EACH way). and Secondly, we are moving in to a wonderful house. We currently live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house without a basement with 6 people. Our new house has 4 bedrooms, 1 3/4 baths, 2 stall garage, a classroom, and a full basement with lots of storage space. Our dream come true!

Craft Crazy

My kids are craft crazy! They all love to sit at the table and create their own unique creations. They would probably sit at the table all day if I let them, but there is only so much wall space in this 3 bedroom house of ours. The best tip I have received about crafts from another mom was to take a picture of the craft and then your kids will be more likely to let you get rid of the actual project. This seems to work with my kids so far, every once in a while they create a special project that they want to keep and I put this in a box with their name on it, which we will sort through at the end of each year.
This picture is of the circle books we made. Each quarter of the book has a day of creation on it. We morning would read the story of creation from their bible and then afterwards they would beg to do another page of their book. They love showing off their books to who ever comes to visit.

Meet the Papons

We are the proud parents of 4 kids, one boy and three girls. Our oldest is six years old and our youngest is only 3 months old. Here is a picture of us while vacationing in DesMoines last month. We currently live in Waupun, WI but are preparing to move to Fergus Falls, MN at the end of May.
